DIMAPUR: Paving the way for establishment of first medical college in Nagaland, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued “letter of permission” for starting first academic session at Nagaland Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (NIMSR), Phriebagie, Kohima, with an intake of 100 MBBS seats.

It came a few days after the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of NMC issued ‘letter of intent’ for 100 MBBS seats for the academic session 2023-2024 at NIMSR.

In a letter addressed to the dean/principal of NIMSR in connection with the application for starting of new medical college with an annual intake of 100 MBBS seats under various sections of the NMC Act, 2019, for the academic year 2023-2024, the MARB notified that the proposal has been approved.

Besides, National Medical Commission (NMC) is entitled to take all such measure against you and your college/institution as permissible under the law,” it added.

The MARB went on to state that it is mandatory to develop a biometric attendance system, website on the college displaying all the information of the institute including courses offered, faculty available and their experience of the last five years, students joined, and the affiliating university.

The medical college should display the hospital services, facilities available and the equipment in each speciality, also showing OP and IP census including births and deaths as per the municipal or government records, it said.

Professor Soumya Chakraborty, Director-cum-Dean of NIMSR, had earlier said that out of 100 MBBS seats, 15 will be for ‘all India’ and 85% for the state of Nagaland as the NMC rule.
