Nagaland’s Covid-19 cases tally to 657

Dimapur, July 8 (EMN): Thirteen more Covid-19 positive cases were reported in Nagaland on Wednesday, taking the state’s tally to 657 so far.

The minister of Health and Family Welfare, S Pangnyu Phom, updated that of the 13 new cases, nine were from Dimapur and one each from Kohima, Mon, Mokokchung and Tuensang.

Home Commissioner Abhijit Sinha also informed through his daily briefing that the total number of positive cases in the state has touched 657, out of which 353 are active and 304 have recovered.

“As per the severity of symptoms, 350 active cases are asymptomatic and 2 active cases are mild and 1 case is moderate,” he informed. All the patients are receiving medical care at the designated Covid-19 hospitals and Covid-19 Care Centres, he said, adding that active surveillance and contact tracing is in progress to prevent further spreading of the infection.

“Till date, a total of 14,213 samples have been sent for testing through RT-PCR. Results of 13, 925 samples have been received. Out of the 14,213 samples, 9, 384 samples have been received at the BSL-3 lab at the Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK) and a total of 9,090 samples have been tested, out of which 464 samples have tested positive,” Sinha informed.

“In addition a total of 8,294 samples have been sent for testing on TrueNat. 7,830 samples have tested negative, and 219 samples have tested positive which have been sent for confirmation by RT-PCR,” he said, adding that 3,483 persons are currently under facility quarantine.

It may be mentioned that Nagaland recorded its first Covid-19 positive cases on May 25 when three returnees from Chennai tested positive for the virus. As on July 8, Peren has highest cases among the districts with 108 active cases, followed by Mon- 73, Kohima- 67, Dimapur- 64 cases, Tuensang-29, Phek-8, Mokokchung- 3 and Zunheboto- 1.
