Nagaland Wushu Association announces coaching camp ahead of Northeast Olympics

DIMAPUR — The Nagaland Wushu Association (NWA) has announced intensive preparatory camp for selected athletes starting from February 28 ahead of the upcoming 3rd North-East Olympic Games (NEOG) which is scheduled to begin on March 18.

In a press release, the NWA updated that it has shortlisted the gold and silver medallists to undergo intensive training at Chumoukedima district, following which the best fighters will be selected to represent the state in the upcoming NE Olympics.

In this regard, shortlisted athletes of various categories have been asked to report at the DUDA guest house near Tetso College, Chumoukedima district, for the training by 12 pm on February 28.

The shortlisted athletes (men) include: Vipu Zhimomi and Wapang Ao (52 kg); Lipokjonshi Imchen (80 kg); Mankho T Konyak and Meidan I Phom (56 kg); Aboto Ayemi and Nupa Kiho (60 kg); Emtiramok Amri and Akivito (65 kg); Kekhrieneitso Angami and Nchumthung Tungoe (70 kg); and Temsu and Yoto Chizo (75 kg).

The shortlisted athletes (women) include: Bwensinsha Seb and Temsurenla (45 kg); Geeta Narjinary (48 kg); and Mahima Mech and Kivikali (52 kg).

‘The wushu discipline is one of the 16 sports disciplines to be featured at the NEOG, taking place across three districts in Nagaland. For the Wushu discipline, the categories for sanda events are 52 kg, 56 kg, 60 kg, 65 kg, 70 kg, 75 kg, and 80 kg for the men’s category. For the women’s category, the weight classes are 45 kg, 48 kg, and 52 kg,’ read the update.
