Dimapur, July 12 (EMN): Wokha District Legal Services Authority (WDLSA) and the Wokha district administration conducted a one-day workshop with the DBs, GBs, and village councils on July 12 at the DC’s conference hall.
Speaking on the roles and responsibilities of DBs, GBs, and village council, ADC Wokha, Mhathung Tsanglao, urged them to discharge their duties effectively with utmost dedication as they are the custodian of the Naga customary laws and practices as provided under Article 371(A) of the Constitution of India. He stated that the roles of DBs, GBs, and village councils assume significance in the Naga society.
Advocate and panel lawyer, Renbonthung Tsanglao, speaking on Lok Adalat and its mechanism, stated that Lok Adalat have jurisdiction to determine and settle pending cases between parties.
Advocate and panel lawyer, David Ezung, speaking on the ‘Basic procedures of law (CrPC/ CPC procedure provided under rules of administration of justice and police’ stated that CRPC/ CPC are the two main legislation on procedure for administration of criminal law and administration of civil proceedings in India. He added that under the provision, both parties should be given opportunity of being heard, give time for evidence and copy of the order.
Advocate and retainer lawyer, Meribemo A Lotha, speaking on ‘Money Lenders Act and its jurisdictional authority,’ stated that all money lending institutions are required to get registered before the registering authority adding the interest rate should not be beyond the maximum rate as prescribed by the government of Nagaland under the Nagaland Money Lenders Act.
The programme was chaired by advocate and project assistant, Shanchobeni P Lotha.
