Nagaland weather forecast: Strong monsoon activities set to begin

Dimapur, June 11 (EMN): Nagaland will experience strong monsoon activities from June 12 to the 17th, according to the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA).

In a forecast issued on Thursday, the NSDMA informed that heavy monsoon rains could be expected almost daily, mostly in the night and early morning during this time.

“Southwest monsoon which has made timeline onset over Kerala and coastal Karnataka has reached Northeast India which has further advanced into Nagaland through the eastern arm of the Bay of Bengal. State capital Kohima and most other parts of Nagaland are also covered with the monsoon current.

“During this period, thunderstorm and lightning with heavy rains is expected in the districts of Kohima, Dimapur, Peren, Phek, Mokokchung, Tuensang, Mon and Longleng. However, moderate showers will continue in the remaining parts of the State which is likely to become intense,” it informed.

The second spell of the monsoon rain is expected between June 21 and the 30th, which will last for three to four days, the NSDMA added.

It urged the public to be vigilant and not take shelter under large trees and near the river banks.
