Nagaland: Victim’s family forgives murder accused person

DIMAPUR — Following repeated appeal letters for forgiveness by the accused Seketol Kiso of Kidima village in the murder case of Thungchibemo Humtsoe, who is both deaf and dumb from Lakhuti village that took place on November 30, 2022, at Lerie Chazou Colony, the victim’s family has forgiven the accused person in the true spirit of a Christian family.

An update from Kohima Lotha Hoho (KLH) stated that subsequent plea by the chairman of Kidima Village Council and the secretary of Kidima community, Kohima, its officials held intensive deliberations with the victim’s mother and her children as to whether they could forgive the culprit. It added that the mother and her children, after prayerful dissertation, came to a decision to forgive the culprit in the true spirit of a Christian family.

Following the courageous and noble gesture of the victim’s mother and family to forgive the killer, KLH held a meeting on June 27 to formalise the intent with both the parties witnessed by various affected organisations.

It stated that the decision was witnessed by the president of Southern Angami Public Organisation (SAPO), Kidima village council, Head GB of Kidima village, Kidima community of Kohima, Lerie Chazou Panchayat, pastor of NCRC Kidima village, and Kiso clan from the accused side, while the victim’s side was attended by Kohima Eloe Ekhung (KEE), Kohima Lotha Youth Organisation (KLYO), Kohima Lotha Student’s Union (KLSU), Kohima Lakhuti Ekhung (KLE), Kohima Humtsothung Ekhung (KHE), pastor of Kohima Lotha Baptist Church and Kohima Lotha Hoho advisors and elders.

It added that the president of SAPO and others from accused side have expressed profound guilt and shame that such a fate had befallen them. They have thanked the victim’s mother and family for their courage to forgive. Meanwhile, the victim’s side led by the advisors of KLH expressed hope that such an ugly situation would not be witnessed by Naga society in future.
