Nagaland University hosts workshop on innovation and entrepreneurship

DIMAPUR — Nagaland University, Medziphema campus hosted a workshop titled “Nagaland Spark: Igniting Innovation and Entrepreneurship” on May 19 with an objective to ignite the students, faculty, scientists and youths for creating awareness to develop entrepreneurial culture in NU as well as the state. 

The workshop was the outcome of the initiative taken by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Jagadish K Patnaik in collaboration with prominent organisations including BIRAC, Bio-NEST, BRTC, BCKIC, KIIT-TBI Bhubaneswar, an update stated.

It aimed to ignite the young minds to develop entrepreneurial culture and to create the pathways of creating Nagaland Technology and Innovation (NTI) Hub in collaboration with Bhubaneswar City Knowledge Innovation Cluster Foundation (BCKIC).

In the inaugural programme, Prof. Jagadish K Patnaik, deliberated upon the need of taking such initiatives for the benefit of students and entrepreneurs to become job creators.

Prof. Akali Sema, the Pro VC of Medziphema Campus gave an opening remark and welcomed the initiative taken by the Vice Chancellor, NU in this respect.

Dr. G Narahari, Sastry, Director, CSIR-NEIST, Jorhat the guest of honour; Dr. Mrutyunjay Suar, CEO, KIIT- TBI and Chairman, BCKIC; and Dr. Namrata Misra, Head-Technology Incubation, KIIT-TBI gave their deliberations on the scope , pathways and mechanism to achieve the target.

In the first technical session, Dr. Mrutyunjay Suar deliberated upon “Translating ideas to enterprises: path forward’ followed by Dr. G Narahari who gave a detailed view of “Priorities areas in innovations and entrepreneurship in North-East region of India”.

Dr. Namrata Misra, presented the pathways of building the Northeast bio-entrepreneurship cluster. The second technical session was chaired by Prof. K K Jha, Head, Dept. of Agri. Ext, Medziphema Campus wherein  Ray Saisoubhagya, Program Associate, KIIT TBI gave a detailed view of funding opportunities for innovators including SIIP, SITARE, DST(NIDHI), BIRAC path.

Gloria Nyenthang, BIG North East 2nd Call Grantee, presented her journey as a successful entrepreneur in the field of producing shiitake mushrooms. She explained how she could overcome the initial obstacles in her entrepreneurial journey and inspired the young minds from the School of Agricultural Sciences, Medziphema as well as School of Technology, Dimapur to come forward for taking up entrepreneurial ventures and lead a successful career.

Prof. A K Mishra, the former Pro VC of NU Merima Campus as well as Prof. V K Vidyarthy, Dean SET, NU also encouraged the participants with their valuable presence in the programme.

Dr. Abemo, the Registrar, NU delivered the welcome address, invocation by Dr. R. Zuyie, lighting of lamp by the dignitaries, compered by Prof. J Longkumer  and vote of thanks by Prof. L Daiho, the Dean, NU Medziphema Campus. About 200 persons attended the programme, it said.
