Nagaland University EDP phase-I underway in Kohima
DIMAPUR — A five-day entrepreneurship development programme (EDP) phase-I began on September 23 at the Entrepreneurship Development Centre (EDC) of Nagaland University, Kohima campus.
The inaugural session was attended by Prof. GT Thong, pro-vice chancellor of NU Kohima campus, as chief guest and Savio Visa, director of Employment, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of Nagaland, as the guest of honour.
An update from the university stated that the first phase EDP would be conducted from September 23 to the 27th, while the second phase from September 30 to October 4, and the third phase from October 14 to the 18th.
The initiative targets youth from 18 to 40 year in Kohima district, who have innovative business ideas or existing businesses under five years old.
It mentioned that participants would have the opportunity to secure a start-up grant of INR 5 lakh from its incubation centre to help turn their business plans into reality.
It stated that 39 students were selected for the programme after attending a series of entrepreneurship awareness programmes (EAP) held at various colleges namely Mount Olive College on August 23, Sazolie College on August 28 and St. Joseph’s College, Jakhama, on August 30.
It informed that the EDP is part of a broader initiative to establish and manage entrepreneurship development and incubation centres in educational institutions across the northeastern region, sponsored by the North Eastern Council (NEC) and the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship.
Dr. Dhrubajyoti Bordoloi, assistant professor of Management, is the coordinator of the programme with Dr. Ditalak Mpanme as the joint coordinator.
Hosts anti-rabies vaccination drive
With an aim to safeguard the health and well-being of pets, the Animal Care Unit (ACU), in collaboration with the National Service Scheme (NSS) of Nagaland University, Lumami campus in Zunheboto district, successfully organised an anti-rabies vaccination drive.
The event attracted significant participation from pet owners across the university campus, Lumami village and Zaphumi new village.
The vice-chancellor, Prof. Jagadish K Patnaik, has emphasised the university’s commitment to animal welfare and public health.
Dr. Pranay Punj Pankaj, ACU nodal officer, underscored the collective goal of ensuring the safety of pets and the community through timely vaccinations, while Dr. Ketinaro Aier, veterinary assistant surgeon, shared critical insights on the vital role of vaccinations in preventing rabies, a deadly viral disease that pose risks to both animals and humans.
It stated that over 55 dogs were vaccinated during the drive, marking a significant achievement in community health efforts.
The event was supported by the chief animal husbandry and veterinary officer of Mokokchung and team members.
