Nagaland: Unity College observes World Environment Day

Unity College celebrates World Environment Day
Students of Unity College along with other volunteers and officials from the Forest department during the plantation drive in Old Riphyim village on June 4.

Dimapur, June 7 (EMN): Eco Club of Unity College in Dimapur, in collaboration with Eco Warriors, Wokha Forest Division, and JICA, observed the ‘World Environment Day’ by organising various activities in Wokha.

An update from the college informed that the students along with volunteers undertook a cleanliness drive at Doyang area on June 3. During the event, the team collected litters and disposed them off at a designated place.

On June 4, the team also undertook a plantation drive at Old Riphyim village in Wokha district, wherein the participants planted around 2000 saplings.

Abeno Ovung, livelihood expert from JICA, delivered a short speech on the importance of plantation drive. She stated that the tree sapling included fast growing and commercial plants such as yongchak and neem.

The main objective of the plantation drive was to enhance the livelihood of the locals and preserve biodiversity.

In a similar programme, personnel from 11 NAP (IR), led by its commandant Yangba Konyak, conducted a plantation drive at Government Polytechnic in Aboi under Mon district.

It stated that besides the personnel, staff of Polytechnic Aboi and representatives from Konyak Union and Konyak Nyupuh ShekoKhong (KNSK) took part in the plantation drive and planted about four hundred saplings of Gul Mohur, Silver Oak, Ashoka and Neem trees.
