Dimapur, Sep. 11 (EMN): With the initiative of the Kiphire district administration, 'Ujjwal' project was inaugurated at Deluxe Point in Kiphire town on September 10 on the theme 'Light up our Kiphire.'
Project 'Ujjwal,' which is translated as 'Bright', is a multi-phase project taken up by the district administration to install street lights in Kiphire town. Considering the importance of proper street lighting, the district administration has devised the project -- ‘Ujjwal’ -- after taking cognisance of problems faced by the public, especially girls and women of the district.
The project was also initiated after receiving several complains from various organisations regarding lack of street lighting in the late hours.
Speaking at the inaugural function, the deputy commissioner of Kiphire, Abhinav Shivam, stated that Kiphire is an 'Aspirational district' and a lot needs to be done. Kiphire being a multi-tribe district, he appealed the public to be united and aspire for excellence and efficiency with honesty stating that the administration is ever ready to listen to the problems and determined to find a solution.
He stated that there is no reason for Kiphire to lag behind as a district. He expressed optimism that Kiphire can be transformed into a best performing district, provided the people come together leveraging upon the opportunity provided by the aspirational programmes.
The programme was chaired by ADC, Nyempo Wallim and prayer for the project was pronounced by the president of Pastors’ Union, Kiphire.
Various phases of Ujjwal
Phase-I of Ujjwal would be jointly executed by the district administration and Power department to provide immediate relief to women and citizens. It would identify important key points in the town and provide lighting within three days.
Phase-II would be executed in collaboration with KTC, commercial establishment and government departments. All commercial establishments (shops etc.) would be directed to put up a Led light bulb. Similarly, all the government offices would put light bulbs to augment the provision of light in and around Kiphire town within a week. Private residential houses along the road should put up light bulbs, but it would be voluntary for private houses.
Phase-III would be taken up jointly by the district administration and Power department to gradually increase the number of street lights, repair and refix old street lights with future vision of covering all sub-divisions in the district.
All ward authorities, Dobashis and KTCCI would be responsible for keeping a check so that the street lights and bulbs are not damaged by miscreants within their own jurisdiction.
