Nagaland: Tributes pour in for late minister CM Chang

Dimapur, Oct. 13 (EMN): Condolence messages from every quarter have poured in following the demise of Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change and Justice and Law; and former Lok Sabha MP CM Chang on October 12.

SC Jamir: Former Chief Minister of Nagaland, SC Jamir has expressed shock at the ‘untimely passing away of Late CM Chang.’

“I know him very intimately as he was an officer while I was the chief minister. As one of the pioneering officers from the Tuensang area, he was deeply involved in shaping the destiny of the people of the less developed area. His interests in the political arena were visible even when he was in administrative service. He took keen interests in the political, social and educational affairs of his people. After retirement he was elected to the Lok Sabha to represent the people of Nagaland. All through his career both as administrator as well as politician he devoted himself for the welfare of the people of Nagaland in general and people of less developed areas like Tuensang and Mon in particular,” Jamir stated in a condolence message to late CM Chang’s wife.

“His demise is indeed a great loss for the state of Nagaland and at this very crucial period the state will miss his wisdom and experiences in dealing with the new challenges ahead of us. My wife joins me in sending our condolences to the bereaved family and pray that his soul rests in peace,” it added.

CSUD:  The Chakhesang Students’ Union Dimapur have expressed their condolences to the bereaved family of late CM Chang.

“His sudden demise has left us with great shock. He was an inspirational leader to the community. He was a leading scholar from Noksen village, serving in the state govt. He was also the first confirmed IAS from Noksen village, who served as the member of the parliament and served as a cabinet minister till date.

“He has helped the Chang community in ways more than the community would ever be able to repay, we will forever be indebted to him. His kindness and generosity towards his community and the Naga people will always be appreciated and remembered,” an update stated.

It added that the CSUD would ‘forever be grateful to him.’

DPON: The Dimasa Public Organisation, Nagaland (DPON) has condoled the sudden demise of late CM Chang who breathed his last on Oct.12 at  Naga Hospital  Authority Kohima.

“His death at around 78 years was a great loss to the entire people of Nagaland,” DPON stated in an update. DPON further conveyed condolences to the bereaved family members.

KG Kenye: Member of Parliament KG Kenye has expressed sadness at the sudden demise of CM Chang, Minister for Forest and Climate Change, Justice and law on October 12 in Kohima.

 “Late CM Chang had served the Naga people throughout his life time in various capacities as a good administrator and Parliamentarian and a prominent public leader. He was a kind hearted and a visionary leader who made immense contributions towards the welfare of our people. He will be fondly remembered for his cheerful and amiable nature. On his departure the Naga people have lost a tall leader and a fatherly figure. His early demise has created a great vacuum, which would be hard to fill again,” his condolence message read.

Kenye further extended his condolences to the bereaved family members and added that the Almighty God grant solace and comfort at this moment of grief and sorrow.

MLA Kuzholuzo Nienu: Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA), Kuzholuzo Nienu has condoled the death of former Member of Parliament and present minister late CM Chang.

“I remember him as a humble, honest and fine gentleman who was also a fatherly figure to many of us,” Nienu stated in the condolence message.

He added that the state has lost an eminent political leader and an excellent human being while conveying sympathy and condolences to the bereaved family members.

Advisor Kazheto Kinimi: Advisor for CAWD and NSDMA Kazheto Kinimi has expressed shock and sadness at the demise of  Minister for Forest and Climatic Change, Justice and Law, CM Chang.

In a condolence message, Kinimi said that late CM Chang had made ‘outstanding contribution towards the upliftment of the Nagas under various capacities in the governance of the state.’

Kinimi described late CM Chang as a man of integrity, honour, courage and has left an ‘excellent and lasting legacy, for which he will be forever remembered.’ In his demise, Kinimi said the state has lost a towering figure who dedicated his life to serve the people.

Kinimi conveyed his deepest condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the departed soul to rest in eternal peace.

Kiphire region: The rank and file of Kiphire region have expressed shock at the news of the demise of CM Chang at Naga Hospital Kohima on October 12.

“The passing away of late CM Chang has left an indelible mark for ENPO in particular and the Nagas in general. We share our heartfelt condolences to the family members at this time of sorrow and grief,” an update stated.

RCN: The Rongmei Council Nagaland (RCN) has expressed sadness at the sudden demise of Late CM Chang, Minister for Environment, Forest & Climate Change and Justice & Law, Government of Nagaland.

“He was a visionary leader, a man of great political sagacity with immense wisdom. He was a fatherly figure to the Rongmei community of Nagaland. He had empathy with the Rongmei people, and his contribution and unflinching support for our people will be remembered forever.

“The untimely death of a tall leader would be difficult to measure the impact he has had on many people’s lives he touched personally and professionally. His death is a great loss not only for the Chang Community but for Rongmei people of Nagaland and for the entire Naga society; the vacuum left by his death would be irreplaceable,” RCN stated. 

APO: The Angami Public Organisation has expressed grief and sorrow at the untimely demise of CM Chang on October 12.

“In his demise, Nagas have lost a seasoned leader, an upright person and a prominent parliamentarian who has contributed significant services for the people,” APO stated in its condolence message.

APO has conveyed condolences to the bereaved family and prays for peace and solace that the family needs at this hour, it added.

NFD: Naga Forum Delhi (NFD) has expressed sadness at the demise of  former president of NFD late CM Chang. It conveyed condolences to the family, the people of Nagaland and the Nagas in general, at this difficult time.

“With wisdom and foresight, president C M Chang, a seasoned politician and exemplary parliamentarian, ushered to foster a strong relationship between Nagas and strived to harmonise physical boundaries that have been keeping us apart across the country. His contribution towards development and upliftment of the Naga society as a politician and bureaucrat are numerous and shall be remembered forever. We honour his legacy and mourn his loss alongside his family and our friends,” it read.

NDPP, Peren: The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP)Peren region has expressed pain at the demise of CM Chang.

“During his lifetime, he has served in different fields, as an officer as well as a political leader and a minister till he breathed his last. The good deeds done by our late leader is beyond imagination and can’t be replaced by any,” an update stated.

NDPP, Tseminyu: The NDPP Tseminyu region has also expressed shock at the demise of late CM Chang at Naga Hospital Authority Kohima.

“His contributions as a policy maker both in the Lok Sabha and state assembly will go a long way in the history of the Nagas. In his demise, the Naga as a whole has lost a tall figure which will be a big challenge to replace,”the condolence message stated.

TBBWA: The Tibetan Bhutia Buddhist Welfare Association (TBBWA) has rendered its deepest condolences to the bereaved family of late CM Chang.

“He was a noble man and his good Samaritan deeds have always touched many of our hearts. We will forever be indebted to him for all the good deeds and help that he has done not just for us but also for humanity,” the message read. TBBWA voluntarily closed down all shops on October 13 till 12 noon as a sign of mourning and respect to him, it added.  

Former NLA Speaker: Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) former speaker Thenucho Tunyi has mourned the demise of CM Chang.

“Mr Chang will be remembered as an able administrator as well as a successful politician having served in both areas of governance. An IAS officer who later on served the people of Nagaland in the capacity of a minister and also as a Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha,  Mr Chang displayed a commendable ability in excelling at various tasks given to him,” stated Tunyi in a condolence message received here today.

“I had the opportunity of working with him during his days as an officer and also when he was a minister in the cabinet. Over the course of our association, I found him to be one of the most refined Naga politicians. He was an amenable man but also forthright in his approach and dealings,” he stated.

A true representative of the eastern Nagas, Chang took up the cause and concerns of his people. He had been involved with the affairs of the Nagas and in his death, ‘we have lost a great statesman,’ Tunyi added.

NLSF: The Nagaland Law Students Federation (NLSF) also expressed sadness at the sudden demise of late CM Chang.  

Chang was a leader who “led people by example, from an able bureaucrat to a prominent parliamentarian and to a minister, who will always be remembered for his contribution to the law students of the state in particular and the people in general”, NLSF stated in a condolence message.

“His passing away is a great loss for the law students of the state and an irreparable loss to the people,” it added.
