Nagaland Tribes Council urges Meiteis, Kukis to restrain from violence
DIMAPUR: The Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC) has appealed to the Meitei and Kuki Communities of Manipur to restrain from any more provocative act of violence and maintain peace and harmony at all levels.
The ongoing violence, which started on May 3 after a rally to protest Meitei’s demand for ST status, has claimed at least 80 lives, injured hundreds of people and burnt down more than 1700 houses.
“The glory of clashes and arson is only destruction impacting economy of the people and loss of God’s beautiful creation of precious lives which cannot be given by any man on earth once gone. It is against humanity in the sight of man and God. Anger is the shortest form of madness and by the time it is regretted the devastation done is gone beyond management,” read the press release from NTC.
It went on to request the two communities ‘to shun all forms of violence and give peace a chance to restore the age-old peaceful atmosphere and tranquility, and rebuild the ruins of the past glory in the state of Manipur’.
