Dimapur, May 7 (EMN): TR Zeliang has ceased to be the Leader of the Opposition in the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) in view of the recent political developments in the state.

The Commissioner and Secretary of NLA, Dr. PJ Antony announced this on Saturday through a notification, which said it was effected following the decision of the Naga People’s Front (NPF) Legislature Party to join the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and the recent merger of 21 NPF MLAs led by Leader of NPF Legislature Party Zeliang with the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) on April 29 and the subsequent order of the NLA Speaker accepting the claim.

It may be recalled that an all-party government was formed in Nagaland last year under the nomenclature UDA after the NPF and Independent legislators joined the ruling People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) government. In another major political development, 21 NPF legislators led by UDA Chairman Zeliang joined the NDPP last month, leaving only four MLAs in the cock party.
