Dimapur, Nov. 11 (EMN): A review of major programmes and schemes of Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, government of India, for all the North eastern states would be held on November 12 at Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH), Medziphema, under the chairmanship of Union Secretary of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Manoj Ahuja.
An update from the Ministry of Agriculture and Family Welfare informed that the department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, government of India, in collaboration with department of Horticulture and Agriculture, government of Nagaland, would jointly review and discuss on schemes being implemented in North eastern region such as National Mission on Edible Oil (oil palm), National Mission of Edible Oilseeds, Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH), Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North Eastern Region (MOVCD-NER), Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY), Formation and promotion of Farmer Producers Organisation (FPOs), National Bamboo Mission and National Beekeeping and Honey Mission (NBHM).
Besides, the members would discussed on issues for better implementation of the central sponsored schemes and to harness the potential of horticultural crops, oil palm expansion, promotion of the organic farming and opportunities for establishment of startups, formation of the FPO marketing and export opportunities in the North eastern region.
Besides the union secretary, additional secretary, Abhilaksh Likhi, and 7 other senior officers at the rank of joint secretaries and 10 supporting officials totaling to 19 from Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare would attend the meeting.
About 40 senior officers of Agriculture and Horticulture department from all the North eastern states have confirmed their participation in the review meeting.
Meanwhile, Nagaland Agriculture Production Commissioner (APC), Y Kikheto Sema, informed that the state government, departments of Agriculture and Horticulture along with the director CIH, Medziphema, is coordinating to host the first ever monitoring/ review meeting of Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, for the North eastern region in a befitting manner in spite of the short notice and limited infrastructural facilities.
On arrival of the dignitaries, they would proceed to CIH, Medziphema, for the review meeting which would be followed by dinner-cum-cultural evening hosted by the state government.
Senior officers from all the NE states along with stakeholders would hold interactions to develop strategies and address the issues related to Agricultural and Horticulture development in the region, it added.
