Nagaland to debut at Miss Grand India 2024

KOHIMA —Miss Grand Nagaland and reigning Miss Nagaland Nieketunuo Sechü is all set to participate at the upcoming Miss Grand India 2024 scheduled to be held in Jaipur on August 11.

Addressing a press conference at Kohima Press Club (KPC) office at APO Building, Beauty and Aesthetic Society of Nagaland (BASN) President Melekhoto Pucho, mentioned that BASN has been conducting Miss Nagaland for the last 33 years annually and this year marked a milestone for the society, as Nagaland is for the first time, set to part take at the upcoming Miss Grand India and Miss Universe India.

He said that BASN has taken a step forward towards providing more opportunities to girls from the state in competing with the rest of the country and beyond.

Pucho informed that the beauty queen is being groomed by Naga fashion designer Theja Sekhose.

Sechu during the press conference shared her excitement on being one of the finalists at the upcoming Miss Grand India, as Nagaland debuts to the pageant.

She exuded confidence that the people would extend support throughout her journey while expressing that she wishes to use her experience and story to inspire people.

Sechu said, “The most proud thing that I take about our Naga Heritage is our Hornbill Festival of Nagaland state. I am going to participate and represent our state at Miss Grand India and my main motive is to let the people know about our culture. By representing Nagaland I am using the symbol of the Hornbill Bird which would be one of my customs in Miss Grand India, that would be an inspiration to the others and they would know our state better and our culture.”

Meanwhile, media secretary BASN, Sarah Konyak, pointed out that, this year Nagaland will be celebrating 25 years of Hornbill Festival and in this regard the BASN has been trying to incorporate the Naga customs with significance to create awareness to let people know about the state.

The BASN President also highlighted that the team would be sending more beauty queens to part take at various pageants including Miss Universe India, Miss Northeast and more in days to come.
