DIMAPUR — Amid uproar from various religious organisations and other bodies in Nagaland over the call by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a one-hour nationwide cleanliness drive on October 1, which falls on a Sunday, the state government has announced that the social work would be carried out across the state on September 30.

The Home department, Government of Nagaland, announced this in an office memorandum on Wednesday.

It said that the mega cleanliness drive will be organised at 10 am on Saturday, instead of the designated October 1, on account of the day falling on a Sunday.

“The respective deputy commissioners have been designated as the nodal officers for planning, taking measures as necessary, and co-ordinating with all the ULB administrators for the urban areas, and all the BDOs for the rural areas, and district officers of other departments/agencies as may be required, for ensuring successful execution of all the activities in regard to the cleanliness drive in the districts in line with the instructions from the government of India,” it said.

“At the state-level, the nodal officer for overall coordination of the entire cleanliness drive will be the Commissioner, Nagaland,” it added.
