Nagaland to celebrate September as national nutrition month

Dimapur, Aug. 31 (EMN): Nagaland will join the nationwide campaign on Poshan Abhiyaan and celebrate Rashtriya Poshan Maah or national nutrition month from September 1 to the 30th.

An update from DIPR informed that the entire month of September will be celebrated as Rashtriya Poshan Maah, which is Prime Minister’s overreaching scheme for holistic nourishment – Poshan Abhiyaan, a multi-ministerial convergence mission to address malnutrition with a targeted approach by 2022.

The Poshan Abhiyaan aims to achieve improvement in the status of nutrition of women and children. Jan Andolan and community mobilisation are essential components for effective implementation of Poshan Abhiyaan, the update informed.

Rashtriya Poshan Maah 2020 will have major activities such as identification and tracking of children with severe acute malnutrition, plantation drives for promotion of kitchen gardens, child nutrition and digital poshan panchayat which will be carried out at grassroots level in convergence with department of Health and Family Welfare, social welfare, NRLM, PHED and local administration, it was informed.

Various programmes will be organised at district, block and village level with participation from the different section of the society — local MLAs, panchayat, local leaders, youth leaders, church members, media persons etc., it added.
