Nagaland: Therie accuses UDA government of misusing MGNREGA fund

Dimapur, July 21 (EMN): Making a scathing attack on the ruling UDA government, president of the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC), K Therie, has accused the state government of deducting 70% of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) fund meant for village development activities and doling out cash amounting to INR 2 crore and 50 lakh each to the ‘19 MLAs of NPF party who have defected and joined them.’
“I am told some are paid and some are not been paid. They have no other source of income and so they are now diverting VDB and MGNREGA money for the election,” Therie alleged while addressing media persons during the NPCC protest against ED summoning the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, at the Congress Bhavan in Dimapur on Thursday.
“Nagaland government does not have any welfare scheme government, but whatever has been generated from the government of India, they bring that scheme to the state and try to get benefit out of that,” Therie alleged.
He alleged that “12 BJP MLAs in the state is greater than 48 regional party MLAs because the chief minister has been tied with five ED cases and the BJP can pull the string anytime and because of his criminal activities and corruption, he wants protection from BJP even though 48 MLAs are in support of him.”
While stating that the protest was called to discourse about trend of the nation and the impact it has on Nagaland, he claimed that there is no more democracy in India but is ruled through intimidation, torture, torment and with various central government agencies, who were paid from the public exchequer.
Stating that the public expected higher mental rating to do justice and deliver equality from enforcement departments such as the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Crime Bureau of India (CBI) and other agencies, Therie has termed it ‘unfortunate’ that those people are being used and playing in the hands of political parties like Modi, who has turned to become fascist.
Talking about the National Herald issues, where Sonia Gandhi was summoned by Enforcement Directorate (ED) even though she had health issues, Therie alleged that the intent of the BJP government was just to harass and torment her.
He appealed to the central agencies to do justice and provide equality to the citizens and not play in the hands of some political parties.
Alemjungshi, NPCC vice president, reiterated that ED has been used as the agency to harass the opposition party in the country.
“Modi government is giving money in one hand and then on the other hand snatching away all our freedom, liberty and even our existence,” he maintained.
Bobby Panicker, NPCC working president, shared that the BJP government is systematically harassing the opposition party. He claimed that there is no freedom for the opposition and press stating anyone going against the BJP government will be summoned.
Chophika Sumi, NSUI president, also shared about whatsapp campaign against misuse of central government agencies.
