[dropcap]O[/dropcap]rganisations based in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district have been using Nagaland as an ‘alert-bell ‘or alarm-bell while highlighting their grievances. The Assam Government or New Delhi will respond to Karbi Anglong district based organisations only when Nagaland groans due to the hard strangulation by these organisations. The louder Nagaland cries in pain the happier the Karbi Anglong based organizations for they know the Government will respond. This act of making Nagaland a sacrificial goat for the cause of Karbi Anglong district has been going on for a long time now.
Given this grim situation, the Government of Nagaland can no longer sleep over the matter. Mere making appeals after appeals will not work. The Government of Nagaland should start rolling up its sleeves to find an effective mechanism to address the problem. There have been occasions when civil organizations from Nagaland have to reach out to the Karbi Anglong district based bodies in an attempt to resolve the problems. But ours is not an anarchic form of society. We have an authority i.e. the Government. Just leaving the problems to the civil society organizations will prove catastrophic.The organizations based in Karbi Anglong district should also realize that the bandh they impose is akin to testing the patience of the people of Nagaland. Prices of commodities will sky-rocket in Nagaland whenever there is a bandh in Karbi Anglong district. It is the Aam Aadmi who suffer. ‘Hungry man is angry man’. So relations between two neighbouring States or between communities can be affected if the strategy of expressing grievances by the Karbi Anglong based bodies is not changed.
These Karbi Anglong district organizations should rather resort to other forms of agitation which impact will not spill over to other states. In other words, non stake holders like Nagaland and Manipur are unnecessarily made to suffer on numerous occasions for the Karbi Anglong cause. Here, the end does not justify the means.
