Nagaland: Teachers, ASHA sensitised on ‘Anemia Mukt Bharat’
Dimapur, June 20 (EMN): The department of Health and Family Welfare, Wokha division, organised one-day orientation training on ‘Anemia Mukt Bharat’ for Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) and government teachers of Wokha district at Likya community hall on June 17.
An update from the office of the chief medical officer (CMO), Wokha, stated that the resource person and its deputy CMO, Dr. Zuben Kikon, welcomed the participants and highlighted the major health implications of anemia. He stated that iron deficiency could lead to anemia which affects cognition power in children and result in still births and maternal deaths during pregnancy.
He also encouraged the government teachers to watch for signs and symptoms of anemia among school students and emphasised on the importance of taking iron folic acid tablets in order to prevent the disease.
In the second session, Dr. Chibenthung Kithan, senior medical officer of Humtso primary health centre (PHC), stated that the aim of the training was to reduce prevalence of anemia in the district by imparting proper knowledge to the ASHA and teachers.
Report stated that topics on strategy to combat anemia, prevalence rate of anemia in the state, causes, diagnosis and risks of anemia, advantages of taking iron folic supplementation for adolescent girls and pregnant women were taken up for discussion during the second session.
The training was attended by medical staff and more than 230 participants from all the five blocks of the district.
