Diphu, March 28 (EMN): Authorities from the Income Tax department (IT) of Nagaland raided a firm in Karbi Anglong of Assam called ‘Hanuman Bhandhar’ on Tue. March 27.
The operation is suspected to be in connection with a case of unaccounted property besides tax evasion believed to be worth in the crore.
The raids started around 10:30 am. The officers raided buildings, houses, and a mill belonging to the firm. The Income Tax officers are believed likely to conduct more such types of raids in the coming days.
When media persons enquired from the IT officers regarding the raids, they replied that they would be issuing official statements once the raids have been conducted. They offered no further comments.
Members of the public who were present during the time also speculated that the investigation might be related to issues of tax evasion.
Interestingly, social and youth organizations in Karbi Anglong have been demanding that the Central Bureau of Investigations probe allegedly embezzlement of public funds in the Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs during the past few years. The public suspect involvement of Hanuman Bhandhar in a Public Distribution System (PDS) scam in the district. The PDS is meant to distribute food grain and civil supplies to the poor and families living below the poverty line.
