Nagaland taking up 3 hydro projects; Mon Medical College expected to complete by 2024-25

The advisor of Power department, H Tovihoto Ayemi said on Monday that the government of Nagaland is taking up three hydro projects namely; lower Tizu Hydro Electricity Projects (42 MW), Zungki Hydro Electricity Project (24MW), and Tizu Valley  (24 MW) as a part of Externally Aided Projects through the Asian Development Bank.

Ayemi was addressing the 76th Independence Day celebration at DDSC Stadium in Dimapur, which was packed by spectators gathered to witness the event.

He informed the gathering that the issue connected with the 186 MW hydro electricity projects at Dikhu is also getting resolved.

Once these projects are completed, he said the state will be self-sufficient in electricity power supply, solving the power purchase burden the state is facing today.

At present, work is also in progress for small hydro projects at Diliumroi (2.4 MW) and the Ponglefo projects will be commissioned very soon, he informed.

On 2 upcoming medical colleges

The Mon Medical College is targeted to complete by 2024-25, while the Nagaland Institute of Medical Sciences and Research or Nagaland Medical College at Phriebagie in Kohima will start from the academic year 2023-24, said Ayemi.

He said the construction work of the medical college in Kohima is 75% complete and the government has created 60 posts of key senior positions; the department has applied to the National Medical Commission for starting the college from next academic year.

Sharing about the activities of various departments in the state, he said the Rural Development department has completed 5,189 houses till date, while the Municipal Affairs department completed 6,295 houses for the less privileged urban population in 32 ULBs.

He further said that under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), 14 projects out of 27 have been completed, while 12 projects are in progress with most of them on the verge of completion.

The department of Social Welfare has been implementing various schemes to uplift the weaker sections of the society in the state, and under Pradhan Mantri Mantru Vandhana Yojna (PMMVY), which has an indicative target of 40,906, as many as 31,370 have been enrolled till date and a total of 27,904 pregnant women and lactating mothers have benefitted from the scheme, he updated.

Nagaland State Rural Livelihoods Mission (NSRLM) continues to do an exemplary job in promoting livelihoods through self help groups, and till date, 1,11,702 lakh women have been mobilised into 12,691 self help groups, and promoted 1,084 village-level federations and 49 cluster-level federations, he added.

Further, he stated that the Public Work Development (R&B) under PMGSY, has completed road measuring 198.47 km (length) and 43 bridges, while another 262 km of road length and five bridges are expected to be completed in 2022-23.
