Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority lists out drills for Nepex
Dimapur, Nov. 9 (EMN): The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority has listed out the exercises and activities that will be undertaken during the Nagaland emergency preparedness exercise, or Nepex, which is planned to be conducted on November 20 and the 21st, updates stated.
The government publicity agency, the department of Information and Public Relations (IPR) gave on Saturday an update about the event.
The drill will simulate extreme weather conditions in Nagaland on November 21, the IPR stated.
The district disaster management authority (DDMA) will identify staging areas, relief camps, helipads, incident command post, operation sections, planning sections and a logistics section before the event.
The DDMA will identify four major schools, two hospitals, a shopping complex, 26 residential locations and eight offices; major roads, and any local vulnerable places in the district as ‘affected sites’ during the drill.
Further, the agency will identify 200 volunteers who will act as casualties and injured persons. It is mandatory that some of the volunteers should act as persons with disabilities, the IPR stated in the list of drills.
The agency will use the trained community first responders or Aapdamitra trained volunteers at the village level. Further, the agency will use the village disaster management authority in the Nepex event, the IPR stated.
Likewise, the district agency will identify local ‘inter agency groups’ operating in the districts for coordination and partnership during the Nepex. The DDMA will identify six local observers who will be overseeing the districts’ Nepex during November 20-21.
All the administrative heads and heads of departments will participate in the ‘table top’ conference on November 20 at the Secretariat conference hall in Kohima, the updates said.
Simultaneously, the DDMAs will also conduct ‘table top’ exercises in their respective district along with line departments and stakeholders on November 20, the IPR stated.
