DIMAPUR — The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) issued a weather alert on Monday, forecasting heavy rainfall across most districts until August 25.

Citizens have been advised to take necessary precautions as the downpour may be accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds, potentially disrupting communication and connectivity.

The NSDMA said that districts of Kohima, Tuensang, Mokokchung, Mon, Kiphire, Zunheboto, Phek, and Peren are expected to bear the brunt of the heavy rains. Furthermore, it warned of potential flash floods and waterlogging in low-lying areas and foothill regions, including Dimapur, Nuiland, Chümoukedima, Bhandari, Pangti, Tizit, and Tuli, due to excessive runoff from the hills.

The NSDMA, Home Department, urged the public to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to avoid any untoward incidents during this period.

It also requested all district disaster management authorities and relevant line departments to be on alert to ensure the safety of life and property throughout the monsoon season.
