DIMAPUR— Nagaland is staring at a grim future as there are too many educated and uneducated unemployed youths, said Moatoshi Longkumer, advisor of Labour and Employment, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Excise.

Addressing the 10th funding anniversary of Pinnacle Skills at AIDA, Don Bosco, Dimapur, on Monday, the legislator reminded that the state’s unemployment rate is one of the highest, standing in the fourth position among 36 states and UTs in India, according to annual Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) for 2021-2022 released by the Centre in 2023.

He said the finding of the survey is a matter of concern and a potential burden to the society.

About 10 years ago, India has the largest youth population in the world with nearly 40% of the population aged between 13-35 years, and there was a time when large population was considered a burden to the state as there were more mouths to feed but “contrary to the popular assumption, a large population is actually as ‘asset’, even more if it is a young population”.

Sensing this, government of India laid down many policies towards a ‘skill-ready’ population, because if it doesn’t create job for this ‘asset,’ it has a catastrophe in its hands, he said.

Meanwhile, he congratulated Dr. Yan Murry (CEO) and his associate for sincere stewardship in leading and guiding the Pinnacle Skills to come this far and achieve this milestone. He also assured to support and work together wherever possible.

CEO of Pinnacle Skills, Yan Murry updated that the Pinnacle Skill has trained more than 10,000 youths and provided jobs to more than 8,000 unemployed youths since its establishment in 2012.

Debojyoti Sarkar, Head of Business Development and Placement of Pinnacle Skills, shared that the Pinnacle Skills believes in giving opportunities and responsibilities as well as helping dedicated members to grow as leaders. Chairman of Pinnacle Skills, John Murry also delivered a short speech and a special song was also performed by Temsu Clover.
