Niathu Sports Festival culminates

DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 26

The Annual Niathu Sports Festival which was in progress from October 24 under the theme, “Unity through Sports” at Niathu Resort Dimapur culminated today with Governor, Dr. Ashwani Kumar as the chief guest.Appreciating the initiative taken by the Niathu Privilege Club in organizing sports with the objective of promoting ‘Unity Through Sports’, the Governor said that organizing such an event was a part of corporate social responsibility undertaken by the Niathu Resort.
“This shows the farsightedness of chief minister Neiphiu Rio” the Governor commented on giving away prizes to winners.
Around 1033 sportspersons, officials and dignitaries from different parts of the country participated in the 3-day sports festival. Total prize money of Rs. 1.4 million was given away to the winners of different categories.
Delivering the welcome address, Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio valued the sportspersons from within and outside the state for actively participating in the event with true sportsmanship qualities.
A good number of leaders including cabinet ministers, parliamentary secretaries, chairmen/advisors/MLA, bureaucrats and sportspersons attended the closing ceremony of the sports festival.

YAN informs on cycle rally

In regard to proposed free and voluntary cycle rally to be held on October 28, the Youth Association Nagaland has informed all those who are going to participate in the really to assemble at YAN office near Hotel Saramati at 6:30 a.m. sharp on October 28 for registration. After the registration, participants would be transported to 3rd Mile (T.K. Service) where the rally would be flagged off at 7:00 a.m.
The route of the rally will be 3rd Mile-Purana Bazaar-New Flyover (via Old Dhansiri Bridge)-Marwari Patti (G.S. Road)-Dhobinala-DC Court Junction-City Tower (Circular Road).
After the culmination of the rally, a brief programme would be at City Tower wherein certificate of participation would be given to all the participant cyclists.

PDVFA meeting

An executive meeting of the Peren District Veteran Football Association (PDVFA) will be held on November 2 at the residence of its president at Jalukie town at 10:00 am.
Therefore, all the office bearers and executive members are asked to attend the meeting without fail.

3rd YAWD Volleyball Trophy

The 3rd YAWD Volleyball Championship Trophy, organized by the Youth Association of Wokha District, will be held from November 5 to 7 at local ground, Wokha under the theme ‘Unity through sports.’
The championship is open to the Lotha (Kyong) only. The cash prize for the champion is Rs.10, 000 and Rs.5000 for the runners-up. All interested team/club are therefore asked to collect the entry form from M/s Shanpan & Son Shop, near taxi stand Wokha.

Nagaland beat Arunachal in opening match

Nagaland Cricket Association is hosting 50 overs a side tournament involving junior teams of Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar and host Nagaland. The tournament is sponsored by Brosid sports from Uttar Pradesh and is played on a one day cricket format.
In the opening match being played at NCA stadium, Sovima Dimapur, the Nagaland team defeated the Arunachal Pradesh team by 6 wickets. Earlier Nagaland won the toss and put Arunachal Pradesh team to bat in a match that was reduced to 30 overs a side due to overnight rain.
