Mokokchung, Sep. 20 (EMN): Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) for Mokokchung district was launched at ADC (Planning) conference hall on Friday. SHS is part of the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM).
Coinciding with the launching programme, the Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) distributed dustbins under SBM to 18 wards under Mokokchng, which were given away by the Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung, Rajesh Soundararajan.
Elaborating on this year’s SHS theme ‘Plastic waste management,’ the DC stressed on how to dispose and recycle plastic wastes. He also directed the HoDs of various government departments to become single-use plastic free zone office by October 2.
“I want action…I want implementation,” the DC stated and directed the HoDs to declare plastic-free zone by work, not by words. He also requested HoDs to be the ambassadors in imparting and sensitising the people about the hazardous impact of plastic on the environment. He urged them to use every medium to spread the awareness.
Asserting that the efforts to tackle the menace of plastic is just the beginning, the DC appealed to the officers, civil societies and stakeholders not to divert their attention on the mission but to make every sustainable efforts to eradicate single-use plastic.
MMC administrator and ADC Mokokchung, W Manpai Phom, informed about the various locations, day and time for collecting plastic in every ward in Mokokchung town.
He informed that plastic collection would be a continuous process for Mokokchung even if SHS concludes on October 2.
He also informed that a mass social work/ cleanliness drive would be held on September 28 as part of the observance of SHS.
