Dimapur, Oct. 22 (EMN): The Amur Falcon Capital of the world, Pangti village in Wokha district, is all set to welcome the raptors in a couple of days. It was reported that Amur falcons have begun their annual sojourn from Siberia for roosting at Pangti village and onward migration to African countries.
President of the Amur Falcon Roosting Area Union (AFRAU), Thungbemo Shitiri, while quoting Dr. Suresh Kumar of Wildlife Institute of India (WII), Dehradun, informed that Longleng, a female Amur falcon that was radio-tagged in Nagaland in 2016, has reached North of Beijing.
Shitiri also informed that the radio-tagged Amur falcon named ‘Longleng’ would reach India within two to three days and added that it is good news that ‘Longleng’ is still alive and transmitting signal.
Also quoting Dr. Suresh Kumar, the AFRAU president informed that due to low pressure of monsoon retreat at Bay of Bengal the Amur falcons were unable to cross the area as compared to last year. He stated that the raptors usually arrive in Pangti during mid-October.
According to the official, the arrival of Amur falcon this year would be a little late compared to last year. He added that it would take a couple of weeks for more Amur falcons to arrive.
