KOHIMA — Nagaland secured six bronze medals in the recently concluded Northeast Inter-State Badminton Championship, held from August 16th to 19th in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh.

Coach Tajenkaba, in a conversation with Eastern Mirror, informed that the team earned a bronze medal each in both the senior men’s and senior women’s championships.

In the individual events too, Riku Khape clinched a bronze in men’s singles, while V. Hitto Swu and Shekhotolu Puro also secured another bronze in senior mixed doubles.

Similarly, Arenchila and Sunepbenla won the bronze in junior girls’ doubles, and Nchatu Herie Kipangwala Longkunmer fetched another bronze in junior mixed doubles.

Upon returning to Nagaland after the competition, Tajenkaba expressed his discontent with the results, asserting that the standard of their play in the northeast competitions needs enhancement.

He emphasised the urgency for Nagaland’s players to make their mark on the national stage, acknowledging that while dedication is vital, nurturing a strong “will power” is equally important.

He noted that several Naga players tend to lose hope when encountering obstacles during matches.

Tajenkaba emphasised the significance of investing extra effort to match the skills of players from across the nation, underscoring the need for rigorous training.

A total of 21 players, accompanied by three officials represented Nagaland in the competition at Itanagar.
