Nagaland: SAMETI conducts training on women’s role in agriculture
Dimapur, Aug. 22 (EMN): State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI), Medziphema, organised a two-day training programme on ‘Extension strategies for mainstreaming gender and women empowerment in agriculture’ for ATMA functionaries, which concluded on August 18.
An update from SAMETI and IETC informed that during the training, the participants were trained on the topic of role of women in agriculture, rural women empowerment and entrepreneurship development, empowering rural women through SHG movement, gender friendly tools and implements in NE, gender division of labour and gender mainstreaming.
Resource persons were A Sungjemkala Lemtur, master trainer from the department of Women Resource Development, Kohima; Dr. Pramod, assistant professor at SETAM; M Yimok Phom, ADPM NSRLM, DRDA, Dimapur; Along Pongen, DC MIS,NSRLM, DRDA, Dimapur; and Noune Krotho, SHG member from Tsüüma village under Medziphema block.
During the training, the resource persons highlighted briefly on different aspects where women play a vital role in agriculture development and improve various traditional techniques to modern techniques.
The participants, as extension functionaries, were also impressed to encourage more women farmers to bring out many success stories for the uplift of women entrepreneurship in the challenging market.
In the valedictory programme chaired by Janet Chishi, deputy project director, SAMETI, participants of 11 districts also gave feedback on the training. The director SAMETI and principal IETC, Dr. Watimongla Jamir, distributed certificates to the trainees and DPD SAMETI, Yezaho Swu, proposed vote of thanks.
