Department of Agriculture celebrates 25 Years Commemoration of Women in Kohima.

DIMAPUR — Honouring remarkable contributions, resilience, and leadership of women farmers and Self Help Groups (SHGs) towards agricultural growth and rural livelihoods across Nagaland, the Department of Agriculture on Thursday celebrated the 25 Years Commemoration of Women in Agriculture at the Directorate of Agriculture, Kohima.
Speaking at the event, Advisor for Agriculture, Mhathung Yanthan lauded women farmers and SHGs for their commitment, innovation, and perseverance in advancing community-based agriculture.
He also encouraged them to continue leading agri-entrepreneurship, value addition, and sustainable farming initiatives, reaffirming the Government’s support for women-led development.

Rongseninla Aier, retired Director of Agriculture and pioneer of the Women in Agriculture Programme, shared how the programme has transformed since its inception in 2000.
Director of Agriculture, Sanuzo Nienu; Deputy Director Khrieseno Kikhi; and two women farmers namely Lahienuo Metseio of Chiechama village and Posanu Mekro of Kezoma village also spoke at the event.
As many as 17 SHGs representing all 17 districts participated in the programme and showcased local agricultural items produced under Mahila Ghosti. It was also informed that the Women in Agriculture Programme has empowered 348 SHGs, comprising 5,454 members, and impacted 256 villages across Nagaland, marking a significant milestone in inclusive agricultural development.
A Souvenir—Farmerette—was also released during the event, commemorating 25 years of the Women in Agriculture initiative.
