Nagaland reports 59 new Covid-19 cases; 2.68 lakh in India

A total of 59 fresh Covid-19 positive cases were detected in Nagaland on Saturday, taking the state’s tally to 32, 834 and active caseload to 404.

The number of recoveries has increased to 30,495 as 15 patients recuperated in the past 24 hours and the death toll remained unchanged at 687 with no report of fresh fatalities.

The department of Health and Family Welfare updated that 51 new cases were reported in Dimapur, five in Kohima, two in Peren and one in Phek, while 15 patients recovered in Dimapur.

Of the 404 active cases in the state, 363 are asymptomatic, 40 mild and one moderate on oxygen.

In terms of distribution of active cases, Dimapur has 337 infections, 39 in Kohima, 16 in Tuensang, five each in Mokokchung and Peren and two in Phek, while the rest of the districts are currently Covid-free.

Omicron cases breach 6000-mark

India registered 2,68,833 new Covid infections in the past 24 hours, taking the tally to 3,68,50,962, which includes 6,041 Omicron variant cases, according to data from the Union Health Ministry.

With 402 more deaths, the number of people who have succumbed to the viral disease has risen to 4,85,752. The case fatality rate stands at 1.32%, it stated.

A total of 6,041 Omicron cases has been detected so far, an increase of 5.01% since Friday, the data informed.

Meanwhile, 1,22,684 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours and the cumulative tally of recovered patients now stands at 3,49,47,390.

With the administration of more than 58 lakh (58,02,976) vaccine doses in the past 24 hours, India’s Covid-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 156.02 crore (1,56,02,51,117).
