Nagaland reports 2 new COVID-19 cases
Kohima: Nagaland on Monday registered two fresh cases of COVID-19, both from Wokha, as even a two-day nationwide mock drill in hospitals to assess the preparedness of COVID management is underway.
The state has reported at least five cases of the disease in 2023 — two in February and three in April, including the two fresh infections in Wokha, taking the total cases so far to 35,991, while 33,690 patients have recovered and 777 deaths related to COVID, according to the department of Health and Family Welfare.
Regarding the two new cases detected in Wokha, Dr. Nyanthung Kikon, State Nodal Officer for Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme, told Eastern Mirror that the patients were showing mild symptoms and were kept under home isolation as per the guideline.
However, he said that ‘there is nothing to panic about’.
While the two persons have no traveling history, he said a lot of people are now travelling and it is not mandatory to check everyone, conduct test, or produce negative certificates like in the past, while the number of tests is also less.
He also informed that samples for previous positive cases were collected but all turned out negative.
Along with the rest of the nation, the state’s healthcare fraternity also conducted mock drills on Monday and the final list of health units that participated will be out on Tuesday, he informed, adding that the Health minister, Commissioner Secretary and Principal Director were monitoring the exercise.
India reported 5,880 fresh COVID-19 cases on Monday out of 85,076 tests conducted. The country’s active caseload currently stands at 35,199, said an update from the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
