Nagaland releases INR 8.46 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises scheme to support Self Help Groups and boost food enterprises.

KOHIMA — The Department of Industries and Commerce, Nagaland, on Wednesday released INR 8.46 crore as seed capital to Self Help Groups (SHGs) under the Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) scheme.
The amount was sanctioned for SHGs under the National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NSRLM) and the National Urban Livelihoods Mission (NULM) during a programme held at the Directorate of Industries and Commerce, Kohima.
Advisor for Industries and Commerce Hekani Jakhalu announced that a total of INR 8,46,07,728 has been sanctioned, which will benefit 2,385 SHG members and 679 SHG enterprises.
Of the total amount, INR 7,28,87,728 has been allocated to NSRLM, benefiting 2,086 SHG members and 627 enterprises, while INR 1,17,20,000 has been allocated to NULM, benefiting 299 SHG members and 52 enterprises.

The advisor said the programme marks the second phase of financial support, following the first phase implemented between FY 2022–23 and FY 2024–25.
Jakhalu appreciated the work of NSRLM and NULM in empowering women through self-help groups and strengthening grassroots entrepreneurship.

“This is a well-designed programme where government funds continue to circulate within SHG federations and support community-based enterprises,” she said.
The advisor urged beneficiaries to utilise the funds effectively, noting that future funding will depend on performance and monitoring reports submitted to the ministry.
Nagaland achieves 16,000 ‘Mahila Lakhpatis’
Chief Operating Officer (Programme) of NSRLM, Rollan Lotha, informed that Nagaland has been given a target of 30,000 ‘Mahila Lakhpatis’ by 2029 as part of the Prime Minister’s vision.
He said the state has already achieved 16,000 Mahila Lakhpatis, with many SHGs improving their income through schemes such as PMFME.
Lotha also suggested strengthening joint monitoring and coordination mechanisms between the department and NSRLM to improve programme implementation.
He highlighted the need for standardisation of products, improved branding, and geographical indication (GI) tagging to address marketing challenges faced by SHG enterprises.
