Nagaland relaxes ban on single-use plastics until November 2024
DIMAPUR — The Nagaland government has announced a temporary relaxation of the ban on single-use plastics and plastic bottles below 1 litre, extending the deadline to November 30, 2024.
This decision, aimed at addressing concerns raised by the industry and prioritising public interest, comes with specific conditions for compliance.
Accordingly, the government has informed that all retailers, wholesalers and manufacturers of products using single use plastics/ plastic bottles below 1 litre, to dispose existing stocks during the relaxation period.
In an update issued by the DIPR, it also directed all the manufacturers and suppliers to take effective steps for collection and disposal of waste plastic bottles.
“The Federation of Nagaland Packaged Drinking Water Manufacturer Association (FNPMA) may implement the buy-back scheme as proposed during the period”, it further stated.
Deputy Commissioners have been instructed to disseminate the information to all Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and village authorities, ensuring strict compliance and responsible collection and disposal of waste plastics within their respective jurisdictions.
All other items and conditions outlined in the original notification dated July 10, 2024, remain in effect, it added.
