Nagaland registers lowest cyber crime cases in NE

Dimapur, Oct. 3 (EMN): Nagaland reported the lowest number of cyber crime cases among the northeast states, with only eight cyber crime cases during 2020, two in 2019 and two in 2018, according to the report provided by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB).
Among the northeastern states, Assam reported the highest number of cyber crimes with 2022 in the years 2018; 2231 in 2019 and 3530 in 2020.
A total of 50,035 cases were registered under Cyber Crimes in India showing an increase of 11.8% in registration over 44,735 cases in 2019. Crime rate under this category increased from 3.3% in 2019 to 3.7% in 2020. During 2020, 60.2% of cyber-crime cases registered were for the motive of fraud (30,142 out of 50,035 cases) followed by sexual exploitation with 6.6% (3,293 cases) and extortion with 4.9% (2,440 cases) , reported the NCRB.
As per the NCRB report, under the offences under IT Act in Nagaland, computer-related offences under Sec.66 reported was seven in 2020 and identity theft (Sec.66C) was three. Cheating by impersonation using computer resources under Sec.66D was four, and publication/transmission of obscene/sexually explicit acts in electronic form was four.
Under the cyber crime motives 2020, five cases were reported for fraud, one for causing disrepute and one for prank. In the police disposal of cyber crime cases 2020, cases pending investigation from previous year were two, cases reported during the year was eight. Under the court disposal of cyber crime cases 2020, one case was pending trial from the previous year.
In 2020 only two cases of cyber crimes against women were reported and the cyber crime against children was nil.
