Dimapur, Sep. 28 (EMN): Nagaland reported four rape cases in 2020, the lowest among the north-eastern states and third lowest in the country after Ladakh (two rape cases) and Lakshadweep (three rape cases), according to the National Crime records Bureau (NCRB) in its Crime Report in India 2020.
Two out of the four cases were reported in Dimapur while Kiphire and Phek district reported one cases each. Meanwhile, no cases of attempt to rape were reported in the state during the year.
Assam reported highest number of rape cases in the Northeast with 1,657 cases and 485 attempt to rape cases, followed by Tripura with 79 rape cases and 13 attempt to rape cases.
Meghalaya reported 67 rape cases and 19 attempt to rape cases; Arunachal Pradesh- 60 rape cases and two attempt to rape cases; Mizoram- 33 rape cases and one attempt to rape cases; Manipur- 32 rape cases and five attempt to rape cases; and Sikkim- 12 rape cases and one attempt to rape.
The NCRB report also revealed India recorded 28,046 rape cases, which translates to 77 rape cases daily, and 3741 attempt to commit rape in 2020. Rajasthan reported the highest number of rapes (5,310) in India, followed by Uttar Pradesh (2,769 cases), Madhya Pradesh (2,339 cases), and Maharashtra (2,061 cases).

The report went on to reveal that Nagaland state recorded 1022 cognisable IPC crimes cases in 2020.
Dimapur recorded the highest number of crime among the districts in the state with 686 cases, followed by Kohima with 84 cases, Mon (66 cases), Wokha (38 cases) Mokokchung (38 cases), Zunheboto (25 cases), Peren (24 cases), Phek (21 cases), Tuensang (15 cases), Longleng (14 cases), and Kiphire (11 cases).
