Nagaland receives INR 69.42 cr. for women welfare

Dimapur, March 6 (EMN): The Ministry of Women and Child Development has disbursed a total of INR 69.42 crore to Nagaland for four schemes concerning welfare of women for the year 2018-2019.

This was stated by the minister for Women and Child Development, Smriti Zubin Irani, in a written reply in Rajya Sabha on March 5. The same has been made available to the public by the Press Information Bureau.

There are many schemes being implemented by various Central ministries through state governments/Union Territories administrations which allocate and disburse funds for the welfare and development of women in distress like aged single women, widows with no support as well as young women from very poor backgrounds.

According to the update, INR 25.69 lakh was allotted to Nagaland for the year 2018-2019 under SwadharGreh Scheme, which is implemented by the Ministry of Women and Child Development to provide supportive institutional framework for women victims of difficult circumstances so that they could lead a life with dignity and conviction. For the same year, INR 163.82 lakh was allotted to the state under Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme (IGNWPS) which is implemented by the Ministry of Rural Development. It covers pension scheme for widows as well as pension scheme for the elderly below poverty line.

A total of INR 221.57 lakh was allocated to Nagaland for the year 2018-19 under the Mahila Shakti Kendra (MSK) scheme, which was launched in 2017 with an aim to empower rural women through community participation and to create an environment to enable them to realise their full potential. Another INR 65.31 crore was also allocated to the state under Prime Minister Awaas Yojana (PMAY-U) for the year 2018-2019, added the press release. The scheme aims at providing affordable houses to women beneficiaries.
