Nagaland: RD dept. conducts training on panchayat awards

Dimapur, Sep. 2 (EMN): Rural Development department conducted a one-day training programme on revamped national panchayat awards for district level officials (TOT) in the conference hall of its directorate on September 2.

Delivering the key note address, the commissioner and secretary of RD, Neposo Theluo, informed that the union minister of panchayati raj in December 2021 had released the report on localisation of sustainable development goals (LSDGs) through panchayati raj institutions prepared by an expert committee. He stated that the committee, in its report, has identified nine themes aggregating 17 SDG for action at local gram panchayat-level as a way forward for attainment of SDG by the year 2030, an update from the RD department stated.

It stated that the ministry is revamping panchayat awards to establish a multi-level competition to reorganise, felicitate and incentivise the best performing panchayats at the block, district, state and national levels in thematic areas related to localisation and achievement of the SDGs in rural areas.

Theluo stated that in the case of Nagaland only gram panchayats would be applying for those awards adding that the department has constituted Nagaland panchayati awards monitoring and assessment committee comprising of nine members involving all line departments. Towards this, he called upon all line departments to give special attention to the panchayat award schemes and guide the village functionaries to fill up the forms properly.

The introductory remarks on revamped national panchayat awards was delivered by the under secretary of RD, Lithrila Sangtam.

The resource person of the training were principal of ETC Phek (SIRD), Dr. Kedise; additional director of Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Motsuthung Patton; deputy director of School Education, Avino Tase; SE of PHED, Gwatilo Tep; and assistant director of Social Welfare, T Neingusalie.

The programme was chaired by senior lecturer of SIRD, Dr. Juthsutho Phoji, while the director of RD, Liboni Humtsoe delivered the welcome address.
