Dimapur, April 30 (EMN): As part of the week-long Northeast festival in commemoration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, a walkathon was held at Kohima on Saturday.

Addressing the participants, Deputy Commissioner Kohima, Gregory Thejawelie informed that various events have been organised all over the North-eastern states under different themes, a DIPR report informed.

In Sikkim, the programme would be held on the theme “The smart city”, Shillong on “Entrepreneur development”, Arunachal on the theme “Development of tribals and the border areas” and so on, he informed.

He also mentioned that the state government will be hosting an event, focusing to promote agriculture, horticulture and organic farming, which would be held at Agri Expo, Dimapur on May 2 and requested all to participate in the programme.

The walkathon race started at PHQ Junction and culminated at DC Office, Kohima.  Welcome speech was delivered by State NSS Officer, Zeneikho-o Benedict and vote of thanks by YRO, Viruokuo Zumu. The event was organised by Kohima district administration.

Meanwhile, a marathon race, in commemoration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, was conducted at Tuensang on the same day.  The race was jointly organised by the district administration and district sports office, which started from clock tower to 3rd NAP (RP) gate junction.

A total of 41 participants took part in the race, which was flagged off by DC Tuensang, Kumar Ramnikant. Puto S secured first, while Khongo and Yongkong Yemba won the second and third place respectively. M Sentinaome was the first female to reach the finish line.
