Kohima, May 24 (EMN: For the first time, the Nagaland Badminton Club under the aegis of Nagaland Badminton Association is organising the Nagaland Premier Badminton League (NPBL). The first NPBL 2019 will begin on May 29 till the 31st at the Indoor Badminton Stadium in Kohima.

This was announced by the Nagaland Badminton Club president, Er. John Metha at a press conference held at the Food Restaurant, in Kohima on Friday May 24.

A team of six comprising 18-20 players each will vie for the title. Total prize of INR 2, 30,000 along with trophy and certificate is set for the winner and runner-up of the League. Meanwhile, the individual awards include ‘Player of the League and Most Upcoming Player.

The league envisages promoting badminton in the state and providing platform for young upcoming talents, the president said.

The categories for the league included U-15 for boys single, U-17 girls single, U-19 boys doubles, mens singles, mens doubles, mixed doubles (men-40+ and open for women), and men’s 85+ doubles.

The league will follow best of seven matches; whoever wins four out of seven matches is declared as winner. A team with the highest points will qualify for the semi-finals and knock out round for each group A and B. The best of three games of 21 points from the knock-out stage to the finals will be played.

As for guideline, the league will be following the Badminton World Federation and Badminton Association of India.

The six participating teams are Raging Phoenix (Kohima), Panama Shuttlers (Mon), Shuttle Rockers (Dimapur), All Beats Kohima, Kohima Smashers, Beits Badminton (Kohima).
