In yet another unfortunate incident, one person reportedly died during a clash between the supporters of a political party and armed forces in Noklak on Wednesday.

Chief Electoral Officer, Nagaland, V Shashank Shekhar, said that there was a law and order issue in Noklak on Wednesday, leading to the death of one person. The situation is now under control, he added while expressing hope that the counting of votes will go smoothly on Thursday.

‘During the daytime, a team including one each administrative officer, senior police officer, and election officer were deployed in Noklak to oversee the law and order situation,’ he continued.

Post-mortem of the dead body will be done on Thursday to ascertain the cause of the death. Till such time, he said he couldn’t “comment” on the cause of the death.

After the post-mortem, the last rites will be performed, he added.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supporters on Wednesday hit the streets in protest after the district election officer and Deputy Commissioner denied their demand for a re-poll of Polling Station ‘A’ in 56 Noklak Assembly Constituency. It took a violent turn, leading to police resorting to a blank firing.
