Dimapur, Feb. 17 (EMN): Nagaland cyber crime police has warned the citizens against fraudsters going by the name HPZ Token, who have duped thousands of people across the country, including Nagaland, amounting to crores of rupees.

The State Cyber Crime Police Station has registered a case against the unknown accused persons based on a written complaint, according to an update by the DIPR.

The modus operandi of the scammers, it said, is to first lure the victims to invest in the company on the pretext of doubling their investment by an app called HPZ Token. Initially, some investors received returns from their investments and the victims were further asked to introduce more investors to get additional incentives apart from their investments in the form of downline commissions.

It said the mode of payment by the investors is through an app downloaded from the HPZ Token website in virtual payment addresses.

The scam in Nagaland started around June 2021 and by August 2021, the fraudsters had stopped the payments and the website not accessible.

The department has, therefore, urged the public to volunteer and share information if any, with regard to the allegations or the company. The identity of the informant, if desired, will be kept confidential, it stated.

Information regarding this may be shared to the mobile number +91 8413980982.

It also requested the people not to share bank details or OTP with anyone and avoid the transfer of money to unknown persons/accounts ‘even if they appear genuine without clear confirmation’.

‘Cyber Crime is a highly organised crime and we all need to remain vigilant,’ it added.
