Nagaland police warns its personnel not to share sensitive information on social media
DIMAPUR — Nagaland police has directed its unit commanders and senior officers to sensitise all ranks and files under their command to handle official communication with due care to avoid legal consequences, after confidential messages of its personnel on Mobile Vehicle Check-Posts (MVCP), detailing the interception of vehicles across the state, went viral on social media.
In a press release issued on Wednesday, Nagaland police informed that some officers and personnel have ‘circulated confidential/restricted and operational messages such as MVCP, Narcotic Cases etc. in an unauthorised manner in many non-police WhatsApp groups and other social media platforms’.
Maintaining that circulation and leakage sensitive information may defeat the purpose of police actions by alerting the potential criminal and anti-social elements, it said “unauthorised circulation of confidential and operational information is a serious misconduct and may attract disciplinary measures and other legal actions”.
It also requested the public to exercise caution and not circulated such messages on social media, if shared with them advertently or inadvertently.
