Nagaland Police participates in All India Police Badminton Championship

Kohima, Feb. 3 (EMN): Twelve players from Nagaland Police are participating in the 12th All India Police Badminton Championship which got underway at Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh on Monday, Feb. 3.

The seven-day badminton tournament includes two events – team championship and open championship.

Nagaland team, that reached Bhopal on the night of February 1, consists of two commandants, two assistant commandants, three ABSI, two havildars and three constables.

Nagaland Police team informed Eastern Mirror over the phone on Monday afternoon that the players are comdts. Rhovisie and Vizhoto; Dy. comdts. Haidingsap and Tiamenla ; ABI Joseph Sumi; ABSI Tajenkaba and Bendangnaro;  havildars Raju and Uma Tamang ; constables Dolen Chang, Pulei Konyak and Imliwapang.

For the record, Bendangnaro of Nagaland Police will be defending her title in women’s singles championship. To her credit, Bendangnaro along with teammate Imlirenla are also the title winners of last edition in women’s doubles. While Imlirenla and Joseph Sumi are defending champions in mixed doubles.

However, Uma Tamang will replace Imlirenla and play alongside Bendangnaro in doubles and also partner with Joseph Sumi in mixed doubles in this edition.

About 400 players from 38 police organisations are said to be participating in the coveted tournament from across the country.

On Monday, Vijay Kumar, the Director General of Police, Madhya Pradesh attended the opening ceremony of the All India Police Badminton Championship that will go on till February 9.
