T John Longkumer administers the unity pledge on the occasion of ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’ held at PHQ in Kohima on October 31.

Dimapur, Oct. 31 (EMN): Along with the rest of the country, Nagaland police observed the 'Rashtriya Ekta Diwas' or 'The National Unity Day' in commemoration of the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallab Bhai Patel, the first deputy prime minister and home minister of Independent India on October 31 at its headquarters with T John Longkumer, DGP Nagaland, as the chief host.

In his address, Longkumer stated that Patel played an important role in the country's struggle for independence and guided its integration into a united and independent India. The DGP added that the police forces in India including the CPO and Assam Rifles have contributed immensely towards various internal security challenges, a DIPR report stated.

“They are an integral part of the national security and instrumental in maintaining unity of the country. It is in recognition of the galvanising role played by the police that October 31 has been declared as 'Police Flag Day' which culminates today with the observance of the 'National Unity Day,' Longkumer said.

On the occasion, the DGP also administered the pledge of unity and called upon the gathering to renew their oaths in upholding the integrity and security of the nation.
