Director General of Police Nagaland, Rupin Sharma, on Wednesday launched an online system to monitor the records of guests staying in all hotels and guest houses in the state.

DGP Sharma said the system has been launched not only for elections but for the future as well. The new system will make details of guests’ check-in available to the police.

‘These checks will make things easier for them and probably make Nagaland more secure for all because people will now be hesitant to stay in hotels using fake ID cards,’ he said.

Citing a recent incident, he said the police had caught 780 gram of drugs in one of the hotels during the hotel checking in Dimapur. When questioned, one of them said that she had travelled to Nagaland about three times in the past and every time she had travelled for drugs, he said.

‘The current system is that they cannot access the database she stayed in because it is all in hard copies. But with the new system coming in, the police will come to know which person is staying in which hotel,’ he said.  Sharma added that in the next few months, they will be able to gather a database.

‘There is no attempt to get into their privacy but these are mandatory requirements for the hotels to comply’, Sharma said.

Speaking further, he said that the hotels and guest houses will log in and get their own usernames and passwords.

‘They can enter the details of any of the guests who visit the hotel. Whenever the data is entered, part of the data comes automatically for access to the police station at the SP level and to the PHQ level. One OC cannot access the other and one district cannot access the other. It will be only at the PHQ level,’ he said.

For the unregistered vehicles, he informed that about 100 vehicles were seized in the four days.

Proprietor of Elysium Enterprise, Bendang Imchen said the system is designed to be accessed by the Police department and hotels. Hotels will be required to do one-time registration for free where they have to provide details of the management hotel registration number, detailed address and the nearest police station.

Designed by the Elysium Enterprise, the system was done in two weeks. It is accessible via URL which can be accessed via mobile or computer, he informed.

Hotels will be required to submit the details of all the guests staying with them on a daily basis. The details include a picture of any govt. issued ID card. They can also view the summary of their guests entered into the system so that duplication can be avoided.

He also said that Nagaland police personnel can access the site across different levels including state, district or police station and view the hotels and guests registered within their jurisdiction.
