Dimapur, Jan. 7 (EMN): Nagaland Police bade farewell to outgoing Director General of Police (DGP), T John Longkumer, during a grand programme held on Saturday at NAPTC, Chümoukedima.
Speaking on the occasion, Longkumer said that he voluntarily retired after consulting with senior advisors basing on two reasons– one is to step down on his own terms and the second to avoid certain legal obligations that could have impacted many people including the Nagaland government. Longkumer added that by doing so, he was continuing his own tradition of sudden life-changing decisions that had characterised his entire career.
Longkumer recalled that in 2011, he was ordered to come to Nagaland on deputation from Chhattisgarh along with his colleagues. However, he was unable to come because of his duties and moreover the Chhattisgarh government needed him there. Longkumer mentioned that he and his wife had planned to retire after his tenure in Chhattisgarh.
It was in 2018, when the government of Nagaland sought his services.
Longkumer has thanked the Nagaland police fraternity, whose association with Nagaland goes way back to his youth during the legendary IGP XI football team. He stated that as the youngest member of Nagaland’s Santosh Trophy team, he was trained in the NAPTC ground and expressed happiness that his farewell programme was held at the same ground.
Longkumer also recalled the 9 IRP personnel who were deployed in Chhattisgarh and paid tributes to those officers and men who never returned home alive.
Longkumer added that serving as DGP of Nagaland has brought him closer to the legend of Nagaland police and had seen the true professionalism, grid and resilience of Nagaland police. Longkumer stated that his association with Nagaland Police has made him bolder, fiercer, and brought out the true warrior in him.
