Nagaland: Phyolumo Lotha’s 50th death anniversary celebrated at Wokha

Wokha, December 4 (EMN): Lt. Phyolumo Lotha’s 50th death anniversary was celebrated at Phyolumo Lotha Memorial hall in Wokha on Friday.

Lotha, Head Dobashi (Hd. DB) of Shaki village, was a visionary person, an ambassador of modern education for the Lotha community. He was shot by a gun on December 3, 1970, before succumbing to injuries at Civil Hospital, Wokha on the following day, December 4.

He served the Lotha Tribal Council, erstwhile apex body of the Lothas, and was also a Deacon from 1945 to 1947. He was a recipient of ‘King George VI Medal’ (1939-1945), ‘The Burma Star Medal’ (twice), the President’s Medal, Sate Meritorious Award (Posthumous) in 1996, a commemorative medal on account of being in government service when Nagaland attained statehood, and Nagaland Statehood Medal 1963.

On the occasion, Deputy Commissioner of Wokha, Orenthung Lotha launched a biography of Phyolumo Lotha titled “A memoir of the life and legacy of Phyolumo Lotha (Hd. DB)” and published by the grandchildren of Phyolumo and Nchano.

The programme was attended by family, friends, in-laws, grandchildren and villagers of Phiro and Sankiton and native village of Lt. Phyolumo Lotha.
