Dimapur, Sep. 8 (EMN): The Phom Students’ Conference (Phom Lailiangh Pangthai-PLP) has expressed dismay at the department of Power, government of Nagaland, over poor power connectivity and supply in Longleng district.

In a press release issued on Tuesday, the association stated Longleng became a fully-fledged district in 2004 but it’s disheartening that “the department of Power at the district headquarters is still under Executive Engineer, Power, Changtongya sub-division and has not been upgraded to Executive Engineer, Power, Longleng”.

Phom Students’ Conference stated that Peren and Kiphire, which became full-fledged districts at the same time as Longleng, have Executive Engineer, Power at their respective district headquarters, while Longleng is left out.

“Longleng as a district headquarters needs an uninterrupted power supply for functioning of the government offices and businesses and a proper head of department as required in a district headquarters but sadly this is not the case as we are not provided with all the requirements for a district headquarters,” the press release read.

“The conference believes that Sub-Divisional Officer, Power, Longleng district has every right to be upgraded to the post of Executive Engineer, Power in line with other district headquarters and moreover the citizens of Longleng district are paying their electricity rental charges regularly and hefty revenue is paid to the department every year,” it added.

The organisation has demands the concern department to establish and construct a proper permanent office infrastructure for SDO and Executive Engineer, Power at Longleng district. It also expressed shock ‘to know that the Power department, Longleng has only one pool vehicle which had broken down and abandoned on the roadside for more than a month now but a replacement pool vehicle has not been provided so far’.

The conference asked the department of Power “how the department will fix electricity problems at far off places without a pool vehicle and especially in a place like Longleng where we have one of the worst road connectivity in the entire state”.

So, the conference has demanded the Power department to immediately provide pool vehicle as the power department at Longleng is facing huge difficulties to perform their duties efficiently.

“The conference cautions the concern department that if the said genuine demand of the people of Longleng district is not fulfilled at the earliest, then we would be compelled to take extreme measures, even up to the extent of discontinuing the revenue payment to the department,” the press release added.
